Hey ya'll...im going to Anytown this sunday and i wrote a poem for talent night...i really want to know what ya'll think since ya'll are fellow NCCJer's so here goes!

The world stands a million cans of paints and patters.
Different shapes and textures
Waiting to be used, to create a mural, the mural of life.
Yet no one moves, and the paints and patterns are left to dry.
And suddenly a man stands up, and many stand with him
And together men and women of many colors, shapes, and sizes
Complete the mural, the mural of life.
And now the world spins with the shimmer of different colors and textures
Creating a beauty like no other
And thats the way it should be.

wow...its amazing, how, in the past year(well itll be a year at the end of august), nccj has become my life...i remember at the beginning, it was so wierd for me, i used to go to the youth empowerment council meetings every other monday, because i was forced to, i used to hate going because...i was the only one like me there, and our youth empowerment council is predominantly black...but...my parents made me go, cause i wouldnt tell them why i didnt like it...i think it was because secretly, i loved going to a place where i could voice my opinions..so that lasted until about march...in mid-march NCCJ held its annual Youth Activism Conference in Boomer, North Carolina, well needless to say, i was forced to go...by my mom, but it ended up being one of the best weekends i'd had in a really long time...since then i became super involved in almost anything i could, i performed a skit at our annual Humanitarian Awards Dinner, and I am now working to start a city wide Youth Council to advise the government, we are working towards our government proposal, and i am working towards a Student Youth Concil to advise our school system in its Assignment Plan...and i just got back from being a counselor at Bring It On, which is an intro to high school for rising 9th graders...i had such an amazing time with the other counselors, and im pumped for Anytown which is from July 31st-August 5th...

The Aftermath [Jul. 13th, 2005|12:13 am]

so we just had a hurricane that was somewhat a disaster. Where im from it wasnt that bad though. It was like it never came by. i wasnt here because i went out of town with my girlfriend to visit her parents. Yeah, real fun..... not! but anyway i feel really bad for the people who got caught i the storm especially in cuba and northwest florida. It sucks living in an area where storms can kill and destroy what people have worked hard to get like houses and businesses. That why im moving to Vermont when i get out of college. You dont here about stuff that goes on up there. Its so much quieter than being down here where you have a period of time where there is a possibility that hurricane can hit your home and destroy it. Anyway on a lighter note, Im so glad that you guys got to experience the Anytown Camp and get meet some very unique people. I hope where ever you are in the world i hope that you will stay involved with nccj and hopefully some of you will be on staff at your respective camps.

South Alabama's Anytown is fast approaching (June 5 through 11). This will be my second year staffing, and I am soooooo READY.

In the ANYTOWN Spirit, what was your favorite part of camp? (worshop, exercise, song, or something you learned.)
